Most cases start at a district court. District courts handle civil cases, family cases, criminal cases, notary services, enforcement cases, and probate cases. However, in Greater Copenhagen, the Maritime and Commercial High Court handles insolvency-related probate cases, such as bankruptcy and debt restructuring.
If you have questions about a case from the district court that has been appealed to a high court, you must contact the high court that handles the case, i.e. the Eastern or Western High Court. The Maritime and Commercial Court is also an appellate court for various areas.
The Supreme Court handles judgments and orders in civil and criminal cases from the Eastern High Court, Western High Court, or the Maritime and Commercial Court. It is not possible to bring a case directly before the Supreme Court.
If you need to submit documents for registration or have questions about this, please contact the Land Registration Court.
