The Danish Court Administration has established a program organization with the purpose of developing new IT systems to support criminal and probate areas within the Danish courts.

Criminal cases and probate cases are significant areas handled by the courts and affect many people.

In 2021, the district courts processed over 196,000 criminal cases and more than 70,000 probate cases. Currently, these cases are managed using older systems that require modernization.

The Criminal and Probate Program is a major initiative by the Danish Court Administration, aiming to develop modern IT systems to support criminal and probate areas within the Danish courts. This program plays a crucial role in the digitalization of Denmark’s judicial system and represents the largest digitalization effort undertaken by the courts. The new systems aim to enhance transparency, improve user-friendliness, and ensure faster case processing.

The program is responsible for comprehensive analysis and development of the upcoming criminal and probate solution. A key aspect of the program involves gathering insights from the courts and external users to ensure the best possible IT support for both professional and non-professional users within the criminal and probate domains.

The final criminal and probate solution is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The initial phase of the solution was implemented on 4 October 2022.
